The smell of fall is in the air, which means Halloween is right around the corner! Make sure you have the best Halloween costume this year by using one of these top costume ideas for 2014.
Polar Vortex. In the winter of 2014, the weakening of the polar vortex above the Arctic sent a powerful chill throughout the United States causing record-low temperatures, piles of snow, and thick layers of ice. There are various ways you can dress as a polar vortex for Halloween. For a simple look, just dress in all white clothing and add a snowflake headband. Or you can dress in multiple layers of coats, scarves, gloves, and winter hats. Adhere decorative crystal ice to your face and your costume is complete.
Queen Elsa of Arendelle. One of biggest movies of the past year was the Disney animated feature film, Frozen. It ranks as the highest-grossing animated film of all time and has won numerous awards, including two Academy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. If you’re a fan of the movie, consider dressing up as the famous snow queen for Halloween this year. Amazon has several versions of the snow queen dress and wig. Warning: donning this costume will make you belt out “Let It Go” at the top of your lungs.
Pharrell's hat. Even though Pharrell has had his infamous Vivienne Westwood hat for years, he sported it at the 2014 Grammys creating much ado. The hat spawned a parody twitter account and even a twitter "roast beef" between @Pharrell and @Arbys. To recreate this notorious look for Halloween, purchase this Williams Happy Hat and a red Adidas jacket from Amazon. Clap along, if you feel like that's what you wanna do…
The McConaissance. From rom-com staple to Oscar winner, Matthew McConaughey has done a complete 180 with his acting career in the past few years. You can pay tribute to The McConaissance this Halloween by dressing as some of Matthew's most memorable characters, such as Dallas in Magic Mike (faux leather pants, black vest, black cowboy hat) or young Rust Cohle in True Detective (gray dress pants, blue button-up shirt, black tie, detective badge, black notebook). Or you can just pay homage to McConaughey himself by rocking some bongos and a tee with his signature Dazed and Confused slogan, "alright, alright, alright."
Sharknado 2. Sharknado, the campy, made-for-TV movie, was such a hit in 2013 that a sequel was released this year. The sequel was set in New York so for this costume, you will need a "I Heart New York" t-shirt, a toy chainsaw, and fake blood. Attach toy sharks to your clothing to complete the look. You can also find Sharknado costumes online at Amazon and Spirit Halloween. Hoooooly shark!
The Apparently Kid. Noah Ritter apparently became a viral sensation this year when he was interviewed by his local news station. Apparently, America can't get enough of the kid because, apparently, he has been on The Ellen Show and Good Morning America, and apparently, he just starred in his first TV commercial. Apparently, you can be this little dude for Halloween by donning a green and white striped polo and a strawberry blonde wig. For your Halloween night conversations, grab a news anchor microphone, talk about live television and the Powerball, and throw in the word "apparently" after every other word. Bye and apparently!
Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the movie Gone with the Wind. To help celebrate, grab your significant other and dress up as the two most beloved fictional characters of the United States antebellum period. To dress as Scarlett, adorn yourself in the traditional hoop-skirt dress with a fan and a parasol. If you're feeling crafty, channel Scarlett's creativity and design your own dress made out of green crushed velvet curtains. For Rhett, you will need a long suit coat, vest, and ascot tie. Frankly, my dear, this costume idea will make your Halloween party go down in history.
Derek Jeter. On September 25th, 2014, Derek Jeter played his last game at Yankee Stadium. Relive this iconic night and pay tribute to the Captain by sporting a pinstripe No. 2 Yankees jersey for Halloween. Just add a Yankees cap and your look is complete. This costume will be sure to garner much re2pect.
