Summer is a great time to continue learning. Once school is out, encourage your middle or high school student to keep exploring through the summer months. If your high school student has already taken the ACT® test and would like to strengthen his or her score, summer is a great time to build knowledge. Here are ten tips to enhance your teen's learning in the warmer months:

1. Read, read, read. Summer is a great time to read books without a deadline. Check out ebooks from Amazon or eBooks.com.
2. Encourage your child to begin thinking about potential majors and areas of study. Your child may view eCampusTours' What Can I Do With This Major section to find an outline of common career areas, typical employers, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities. ACT's Map of College Majors details topics, work tasks, available degrees, and related occupations and majors, along with salary, size and occupational growth.
3. Seek out tutors. Talk with teachers and the school counselor for help locating individual coaching in areas in which your child wants to improve or even enhance his or her skills.
4. Encourage your student to explore careers. What does your teen want to do when he or she grows up? One great place to start is ACT's World-of-Work Map. Once your child takes EXPLORE®, PLAN® or the ACT, he or she will learn even more based on the results of the interest inventory. Your child should also use the Kuder Career Planning System to futher explore his/her career options. 
5. Begin taking college campus tours early. If you plant a seed while your child is young, he or she may discover an interest in college. And the more college trips you can make, the better informed your child will be when it comes time for the actual college selection process. If you can't take the tours in person, be sure to utilize virtual tours here on eCampusTours.com 
6. Take a "trip around the world in 80 days." Since summer break typically lasts about 80 days, work with your teen to map a journey around the globe by studying different areas each week.
7. Consider sending your teen to a summer camp. Choose what you can afford, and don't forget to ask about scholarships or financial help. Ignite or renew your student's passion in art, music, sports, the environment, debate or any other area.
8. Suggest that your teen volunteers at a local community organization. Not only is volunteering a great thing to do, it will show colleges that your teen is empathetic and caring.
9. Enroll your student in a summer class or check out your local community college's continuing education courses.
10. Encourage your teen to find an internship or a job shadowing experience.

By taking advantage of every opportunity, your student can have fun and learn at the same time.
